In winter, the Lena River freezes to such a thickness that it can withstand even the heaviest semi-trailer trucks. During the summer, the Lena River is regularly crossed by ferries at several points both north and south of Yakutsk.
There is no bridge across the Lena river
Yakutsk has hot summers and very cold winters. The road and rail system connecting Yakutsk with the rest of Russia is on the other side of the Lena River. Unfortunately, there is no bridge across the Lena yet. So, for about 5 months out of a year, Yakutsk is not connected by land transport.

From Nizhny Bestyakh you can get to the Trans-Siberian railway system in Neryungri. You can also take a bus or minibus from Yakutsk to Neryungri and then take the train of the Trans-Siberian Railway.
