Special tourist attractions
Travelers come to Yakutsk for a variety of reasons. Many people come for business or family reasons. Tourists come because Yakutsk offers unique adventures and experiences. There are four different seasons in Yakutsk, and each season offers something unique and different.
In winter, Yakutsk is often the coldest city in the world. It’s not that far from the place that holds the record for the coldest inhabited place on earth. However, many are surprised that it can be hot in Yakutsk in the summer. There is a reason why all rooms at Bed & Breakfast Bravo! are air conditioned.
Here are some of the most famous tourist attractions:
Oymyakon and Verkhoyansk compete with each other for the title of the coldest settlement. Verkhoyansk currently holds the official record of -67.8°C. Oymyakon unofficially recorded a temperature of -71.2°C, but officially the lowest figure is -67.7°C. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Yakutsk is a mere -64.4°C.
Experience The Extreme Siberian Winter Weather
Extreme cold weather is common in the Republic of Sakha and Yakutsk. Yakutians consider -40 C a warm day in Yakutsk from December to February. It is not uncommon for temperatures to drop below -50°C.
Local residents live and work at such temperatures. Intense cold is tolerable if dressed appropriately in warm clothing. Generally, the air is fairly still and has very low humidity, so there is usually no “wind chill factor”.

Mir Diamond Mine in Mirny
There are several kimberlite pipe diamond mines in the Republic of Sakha, but the Mir mine is the best known, perhaps because it was the first and also because one end of the Mirny airport runway is so close to it.
There are regular flights between Yakutsk and Mirny, as well as between Moscow and Mirny.

A large cave was cut into the mountainside on the outskirts of Yakutsk. All the land is below the permafrost layer, so everything inside the cave remains frozen. It has become one of Yakutsk’s popular tourist attractions, especially in the summer when it’s hot outside. The temperature inside the cave remains fairly constant regardless of the temperature outside.
Ice Kingdom
Carved ice statues stand throughout the cave. Colored lighting complements the overall atmosphere of the Ice Kingdom. Many of these ice figurines will depict figures from Yakut folklore.
The caves were carefully excavated, resulting in many different halls and galleries. Visitors are given a warm coat and safety gear, as the cave is essentially a huge natural freezer.
